Why Does My Child Need Speech-Language Therapy?

Wearing hearing aids alone does not guarantee that your child will develop spoken language skills. If your child is already showing speech-language problems, they may face challenges in:

  • Using language proficiently
  • Speaking clearly
  • Communicating effectively
  • Developing literacy skills

These challenges can impact their academic performance, ability to forge friendships, and overall socio-emotional development.

At Eartistic, our expert speech-language therapist works closely with you and your child to address these issues. Our goal is to ensure your child achieves age-appropriate or near age-appropriate skills in listening, speaking, and using language effectively.

What Kind of Speech-Language Therapy Does Eartistic Offer?

Speech-language therapy at Eartistic is uniquely designed for children with hearing loss. Our therapist works in partnership with parents and caregivers, recognizing that your participation is vital to your child’s success.

Our family-centered approach ensures that therapy is tailored to meet your child’s specific needs, creating a supportive and effective learning environment.

When Should Speech-Language Therapy Begin?

Start Early for the Best Outcomes.

  • At 2 years old, children with typical hearing have an average vocabulary of 200 words and learn about five new words daily.
  • By 6 years old, they typically have an expressive vocabulary of 2,600 words and a receptive vocabulary of 20,000–24,000 words.

If your child has:

  • Limited spoken language
  • Difficulty speaking clearly compared to peers
  • Poor vocabulary or grammar skills

It’s important to begin therapy as soon as possible. Delaying intervention can make it harder for your child to catch up, affecting their ability to enter mainstream education and perform day-to-day tasks that require language proficiency.
